What to know before you call a locksmith
A locked door is stressful, and that is exactly when people overpay. A few things are worth knowing before you pick up the phone — whoever you call.
Spotting a locksmith scam
Be wary of ads that promise a very low “from” price and then add charges on arrival, of call-centres that dispatch whoever is free, and of anyone who will not give a business name, a local address or a price range over the phone. A genuine local locksmith tells you what the job is likely to cost before they drive to you, and explains any change before doing the work.
What happens when you call EZ Locksmith
You speak to us about where you are and what has happened — locked out of the house, keys inside the car, a lock that will not turn, a mailbox you cannot open. We tell you what it is likely to involve and what it costs, and then we come to you. We are a mobile service: we always go to your home, business or vehicle, so there is no shop to visit. Estimates are free and there is no fee just to look at your locks.
Opening a door without damaging it
Most lockouts can be solved without drilling or replacing anything. We start with the least destructive method the lock allows, and only move to drilling or replacement when a lock is built to resist picking or has failed. If that is the situation, we tell you before we start.
What affects the price
The type of lock, the make of the vehicle, whether parts are needed, and the time of day all affect the cost. After-hours rates apply to emergency call-outs, and they vary with the hour. Rekeying an existing lock is usually cheaper than replacing it, which is why we suggest it first after a move or a lost key.

Are all locks able to be picked?
No, not all locks are able to be picked. Some residential and commercial locks are high-security and pick resistant.
Can I use the same key for all of my locks?
Yes, but only if all of the locks have the same keyway or are made by the same manufacturer.
Do you charge a service fee to come to our house or business and look at our locks?
No, EZ Locksmith does not charge a service fee when simply inspecting your locks. Estimates are free.
What does it mean to “rekey a lock”?
Rekeying means you can keep your present locks, but requires changing the pins inside them so any copies of your old key will no longer work. Rekeying saves you time and money!
How long does it take to fix a broken lock?
This will vary depending on the lock type and the condition of the lock. A Yale lock for example would normally take 20 – 30 minutes to repair or replace. A mortice lock might take a bit longer nearer 40 to 50 minutes. It really depends on the type of lock, the fault and the condition of the door / lock.
